Worley Parsons Scholarship open for submission for 2016

WorleyParsons is providing three Professional Engineering Scholarships to students about to begin an Engineering degree at a University in New Zealand. The Scholarships are designed to assist the young people of Taranaki, Hawke's Bay and Northland to further their ambitions and opportunities toward a career as a Professional Engineer. Deadline for 2016 submission: Friday 25th of September 2015.

The Scholarships will have a value of $5,000 each, which will be paid in four annual instalments of $1,250. Students may be given the opportunity to undertake part of their required professional work experience for their degree at WorleyParsons after completion of their 3rd year of University study. Each recipient will also be appointed a Graduate Engineer as a mentor from WorleyParsons Graduate Development Organisation (GDO) who will maintain a relationship with the recipient throughout their time at University.

Criteria and Requirements

To be eligible to apply, students must be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident concluding their schooling at a Taranaki, Hawke's Bay or Northland secondary school this year and attend one of the five Engineering Universities in New Zealand in 2016 as a full time student. Students are encouraged to apply whether they have been accepted into a course or are still awaiting confirmation; proof of acceptance and enrolment will only be required at the time of payment of the Scholarships.

Applicants must submit a brief CV, a copy of their latest NCEA results and have a proven academic background and a commitment to study.  Applicants must also submit one character reference (preferably from a member of the school staff) which supports their application.

The successful applicants will display the following qualities:

  • Be an 'all-rounder'
  • Good academic achievement
  • School and community involvement
  • A commitment to pursue a career as a Professional Engineer
  • High level of drive, commitment, enthusiasm and integrity
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and an ability to relate well to others

All candidates will be considered and short listed candidates will be interviewed by phone. If the need arises, there may also be a face to face interview as part of the process.  Representatives from the WorleyParsons GDO will be responsible for shortlisting and selecting the Scholarship winners. WorleyParsons reserves the right to make the final decision on awarding each Scholarship.

The first payment will be made after the recipients provide WorleyParsons with evidence of acceptance and enrolment in an Engineering degree. The recipients will then be required to submit evidence of passing their papers each year and continuing full time study toward their Engineering degree for the award to continue.

Please complete the online application, including all supporting information, by Friday 25th September 2015. You will be advised of the decision in October 2015. To apply, visit the website.
