Patrick Sun and Joshua Dawes

A team of two Engineering Science students, Patrick Sun and Joshua Dawes, has been announced as the winner of the 2015 CMC Markets National Trading Challenge.

Sun and Dawes achieved a whopping 700 percent return on investment, placing them at the top of 296 university student teams in this year’s competition. Sun considered that the competition “provided a rare opportunity for us, as engineering students, to get a taste of trading”.

Now in its fifth consecutive year, the annual trading competition is aimed at empowering students across New Zealand to apply trading strategies to attain the highest return on investment over the full month of September. Each participating team of up to two are assigned with a virtual account of $50,000 to trade in shares, currency, commodities and global indices via CMC Markets’s award-winning online trading platform.
